Happy National IPA Day!

It’s the beer we either love to hate:  the Indian Pale Ale or IPA, for short.  There’s really no in-between with this one!  I’ve heard them described as beautiful, citrusy, and complex.  I’ve also heard them described as disgusting, revolting, and what it must taste like to drink poison.  At any rate, it has its own day: Thursday, August 2nd.  For more on IPA Day, check out the official site.

So, how should one commemorate this important day?  You can celebrate it by buying your favorite, or by buying one for someone else, if you can’t stand ’em.  We’ll be celebrating with this amazing recipe, courtesy of Beer Mixology a brilliant site dedicated to my favorite thing: beer cocktails.  Happy mixing!

Kentucky Sunrise

  • 1.5 oz. Bourbon
  • 1 oz. mango, diced
  • 1/2 oz. lemon juice
  • 1/2 oz. raw agave nectar
  • 2 oz. India Pale Ale
  • Angostura bitters

Muddle the mango, lemon juice and agave until mango has been sufficiently pulverized. Add Bourbon. Shake vigourously with ice. Strain into Champagne flute, top with IPA and 2 dashes Angostura bitters.
